Home
This website has been created as a depository for documentary films deemed to be among “The Best of The Best” across a wide variety of subjects.
The selected films (see Films) are presented in reverse chronological order by year of production.
Most films may be seen on Netflix.com, DVD.Netflix.com, Snagfilms.com, and/or YouTube.com.
Examples of possible uses for this website:
Colleges and High Schools – Educators might use these films to spark interesting discussions and writing assignments. Select a new film for the group to watch each week or suggest that your students pick from those films they find interesting. Possible courses where these films could prove useful may include:
- Film theory/production
- Writing
- Public Speaking
- Debate
- Anthropology
- History
- Psychology
- Sociology
- Economics
- Personal Finance
- Government Policy
- Politics/Government
- Model Congress/UN
Individuals/Families/Friends – Watch and enjoy these films at home. Consider having discussions with family members and friends about the films and the issues touched upon in each film.
Movie Clubs – Create clubs in your communities where you can view these films at home or in a group setting and then have “book club” type discussions accordingly. (Might be appropriate for retirement communities, libraries, etc).
See the Discussion Questions and Assignments page of this blog site for a few generic questions that could be used to start off discussions for nearly any documentary film. Then allow your groups to re-direct the discussions as they occur naturally with input from group members. Educators/group leaders are also encouraged to form their own discussion questions for their classes/groups about each film and the issues presented in each film. Additionally, the websites hosting these films already contain an enormous number of viewer reviews and comments specific to each film. You and other members of your groups may wish to read, think about and add to the comments on those sites.
