FILM DESCRIPTION: In this sobering documentary, Austrian filmmaker Michael Glawogger journeys to a Ukrainian coal mine, an Indonesian sulfur plant, a Nigerian abattoir and a Pakistani ship-dismantling facility to depict the insidious effects of manual labor. At each site, Glawogger’s camera captures workers as they toil through backbreaking jobs — in often deplorable and dangerous conditions — for slave wages. Note: The film contains disturbing imagery.
